Glebe House is a school which is renowned for its happy, family atmosphere. It is a school where children are taught to care for each other in an environment that allows individuals to develop their confidence in the knowledge that they are respected for their talents, whatever these may be.
Situated in a lovely part of Norfolk, half a mile from the sea, Hunstanton is at the western tip of the Norfolk marshes which run for thirty miles to Cromer, and are preserved as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Long uninterrupted sandy beaches stretch in both directions.
The school is a mainly day co-educational school with a small (maximum 40) number of weekly boarders. There are nine classes, Reception and then years one to eight, 4 - 13+. There is a nursery attached to the school (2.5 - 4) which is very successful. From Reception to year 4 the children are class taught in the new purpose-built Junior School which has its own Head of Department.
For the first three years the day starts at 8.30am and terminates at 3.30pm, but from year 3 it extends to 6.00pm including tea and supervised prep. The Senior School has recently been redesigned and now offers purpose-built subject specialist teaching rooms which include an Information Technology Room, Science Laboratory, Design Technology and Art Studios (with pottery, sculpture and photography) and a large music teaching block. Music, Drama and sport represent major elements of the curriculum. With extensive grounds and an indoor heated 4 lane 25 metre swimming pool the school offers exceptional facilities and opportunities for all the young people who attend.
The school's curriculum embraces the programmes of study of the National curriculum and is formal in structure. It aims to ensure that all children are progressing at the top end of their ability at all times, but without being pressurised. The pastoral and discipline system within the school grow from a clearly defined set of values which the children are expected to observe. There are few punishments but a clearly defined code of conduct which all children follow. It is an exceptionally happy school and this quality matters more than any other.
